There is a large section of trapped floor tiles just before the room that contains a Secret door leading to the Chest with the Heart of the Wood. This room is full of the "of the sword" fellows. Once you eliminate or dodge these gents the Heart of the Wood can be found in the Chest in the Secret room. Once you have it in your possession return it to the Oldest Tree in the Tularean Forest, on the island south of Clanker's Lab.
Standing to one side is advised when opening the door marked in dark red as it triggers a Trap down the hall. Open the door just south of the trap. This room usually contains any variety of Initiates, Masters, and Champions of the Sword. These gents are tough as nails and can really put a hurting on you. (See below for strategy tips.)
Preparation: I recommend a heroism & bless spell, if you do not have the spells use the heroism pedestal by the temple in town. Stone skin is a must as is preservation & regeneration if you have those spells. An expert alchemist can whip up preservation potions, see Alchemy. |

We tried Rods of Shrinking and miniaturized a few of them, but they could still clobber us for considerable damage. The wand of Paralyzing was great, when it worked. At least it kept a few of them off us long enough for us to dispatch a few of the others. We ran up the stairs to the ledge about the main room, not good for attack (since they all clump up under you where you can't get at them) but for defense, to breathe a moment and heal. We even lead them to that area of the building with the colored floor section, then kept stepping on and off it letting the trap there wear them down a bit. |

A dirty little trick we pulled (which worked best) was to run quickly back up to the top of the hallway just inside the central main room. Here we stopped and went in to turn based combat mode. (You have to start running as soon as you touch the door to open it.) These guys are only allowed so many steps per round and since the floor is ramped they can only come so far then they slide back down. Using ranged attacks and spells we managed to whittle them down. |
